Gaming Information

On this page you will find a list of descriptions of the various gaming events, sorted by the genre of gaming and rules system. A list of the various game systems that will be represented as OwlCon '01 can be found on our Activities page. An overall schedule of events and locations can be found on our Event Schedule page. You can still pursue the submission of gaming events on our Gaming Event Submission Form, but fortunately we have so many games arranged that we are almost out of space to put them in.

Warhammer Tournament (1000-1800 Saturday)

Come bash it up with our officially sanctioned Rogue Trader Tournament. Dennis Dawson and Darrell Runyan will be running a three-round tournament for battle points and prizes. There will be three missions played in three separate rounds, so everyone gets to play three times. We will have enough tables and terrain for twenty four tables of gaming, so come out and bring your friend...and your uncle...and your sister...and...you get the idea. There will be a five dollar entry fee, which covers all rounds of the tournament. Armies will be built on 1750 points. Show up early enough to register. See the event description below for more details.

RPGA Events Information Is Finalized!

We will have Living Greyhawk, Living City, Virtual Seattle, Living Rokugan and Star Wars. We will not be able to have an RPGA Interactive. Interactives have been suspended until March, 2001. See the RPGA events listings below. Note: there is a $2 entrance fee for all RPGA events.

Take a Break!

We will have one hour breaks between the standard gaming slots to allow you a chance to browse the dealers' room, finish up tourney paperwork and prize awards, eat, etc. So take it easy and game away, you won't have to run to your next session.

MiBs, Outriders, and Wolfpacks, Oh My!

We are bringing in the big guns for game masters. The Houston area Men-in-Black, the official Steve Jackson Games volunteers, will be at OwlCon running all of the Steve Jackson Games offerings. Official Games Workshop volunteers, called Outriders, will run the Warhammer events. As if that weren't enough, we'll also have a White Wolf Wolfpack Demo Team, called the House of Gabel, coming down from Louisiana (hoo-eee!). All of these fine people will be bringing all manner of prize support. So come on down, try out games run by our ringers, and get some loot!

Learn a New Game!

We have a *lot* of new games, so come try them out!

Shadowrun 3rd ed Fri1900, Sat1900 Intermediate

The illuminated trideo screen cast a ghostly aura about the darkened room, like revelation taken form. The man closed his eyes and rubbed his temples in subdued frustration and anger. The plan had been a simple one: hire a shadowrun team for a datasteal on an unrelated project in his building, leaving his research the jewel in their crown. The extra funding and recognition that he had been fighting for would fall right into his lap. Now the greed of a single fragging runner was threatening to tear it all down. He opened his eyes and the frozen face stared back at him, mocking him with its mere presence. "You won't win this one, my friend," he whispered.

42 The Battle of Arrowfield Church 2-6 Players
Johnny Reb III Sat1900, Sun1200 Beginner

May 9, 1864, north of Petersburg, Virginia, late afternoon......The previous day Major General Benjamin Butler led his Army of the James out from Bermuda Hundred and turned southward towards Petersburg. On May 9, elements of the XVIII Corps approached Swift Creek, 4 miles north of Petersburg. Although additional Confederate units were on the way, at that moment only two Rebel brigades - Johnson Hagood's and Bushrod Johnson's - blocked the Federal's southward movement. While Johnson defended east of the Richmond Turnpike, Hagood's Brigade blocked the main advance along the Richmond Turnpike. Hagood attempted to resolve conflicting orders by aggressively moving across Swift Creek and charging the Federals near Arrowfield Church. Though the resultant heavy losses forced Hagood to withdraw, his bold action sufficiently impressed the Federals that they halted their advance for the day.

54 Family Business 2-6 Players
Family Business Fri1900 Beginner
An easy, fast-paced card game of gangster warfare. Put contracts out on other mob members, hoping to finish 'em off before they escape with police protection, double-cross you, and start the St. valentine's day massacre.
GM - Ian Barland

55 One Round Takes the World! 3-8 Players
Illuminati: New World Order Sat1400, Sun1200 Beginner
Power. Deception. Double-dealing. No, it's not the 2000 presidential election, it's Illuminati: New World Order, the award-winning collectible card game from Steve Jackson Games! Pre-constructed decks will be available for this one-round winner-takes-all tournament, or bring your own and surprise the GM. Prizes will be awarded and mayhem will ensue -- don't miss out!
GM - Meredith L. Patterson, Steve Jackson Games Man-in-Black, Houston Cell

56 Illuminati (non-collectable) 4-6 Players
Illuminati Sun1200 Beginner
They're all around us. Secret conspiracies are everywhere. The KGB controls the post office (that you already knew), but will the boy scouts gain control of the KGB? Strive for world domination, using the orbital mind control lasers if you must. Fnord. [The regular game, not the collectible card game.]
GM - Scott Berger

57 Roborally 3-8 Players
Roborally Sat0900 Intermediate
Each player's robot races across the factory floor. Avoid pits, stand on gears to help you turn, maybe hitch a ride on a conveyor belt (hoping fervently you can step off before being conveyed under a crusher!). Each turn you're dealt a hand of nine basic instructions, from which you create a five-step program. If you're clever maybe you can push another robot off-course, cheering as their program guides them into the path of violent danger.
GM - Ian Barland

58 Samurai Swords 4-6 Players
Samurai Swords Sun1200 Beginner
March your Shogun around the board, destroying other armies and have your two lieutenants gain power. More complicated than Risk, but not much more so.
GM - Scott Berger

59 Settlers of Catan 3-4 Players
Settlers of Catan Sat1400 Beginner
Settle your town next to strategic resources, trade resources for what you need, and be the first to build enough cities and roads to win.
GM - Ian Barland

60 Talisman 2-8 Players
Talisman Fri2400 Beginner
A bit like The Game of Life set in the age of magic. See where you can move to on your turn, read what the board says on each square, and choose your fate. Avoid fighting nasty trolls in the woods, stop in at the castle and see what the king does for (or against you), and eventually reach the inner circle to claim The Talisman.
GM - Ian Barland

61 Titan 2-6 Players (3-4 best)
Titan Fri1900, Sat1400* Intermediate
Clashes between ogres, gorgons, and dragons: On the masterboard your stacks wander around looking to recruit bigger and meaner creatures, but eventually you have to commit them to battle on the tactical-level maps. The last titan left standing wins the game. Avalon-Hill dubs it their "Monster Slug-a-thon Fantasy Wargame."
* - the Saturday 1900 slot would be for a play off round, if necessary.
GM - Ian Barland

Resistance is Feudal GURPS: Traveller (New Era) Six Players Standard four hour slot x 2 Intermediate

Traveller: New Era is a dangerous time in which to live. GURPS rules make it even more so... Nearly 6000 years in the future, the greatest interstellar empire ever known came and went, along with most of the humans who built it. The Virus, a doomsday weapon of catastrophic proportions, has turned the "universe as we know it" upside down and turned much of the Humaniti-made universe against you. Some brave souls are seeking to rekindle the flame, to reclaim their birthright: the stars! You are one of those bold few Star Vikings. Your mission is not for the faint of heart, not for those who fear death: to boldly go where your platoon sergeant tells you, to meet new and exotic challenges... and nuke them from orbit, if possible -- Just to be sure. Along the way, you might just be able to rescue a few captured friends and recover some long lost Pre-Collapse artifacts and knowledge...

Submitting Events

The Deadline for Gaming Event Submission has passed, but . . .

Never fear, you can still submit an event. The only real change is that we can not guarantee that we will be able to include your event. However, we will let you know long before the con occurs. We also need lots of plain old warm bodies to help out, so be a volunteer if you don't want to GM!

Conventions are a great place to meet new gamers and help strengthen the hobby.  We'll even give you a cool, free commemorative T-shirt! Gamemasters will be asked to run two sessions of gaming, the sessions can both be the same scenario or two different ones. If you run a third session, we'll think of something cool to give you, maybe some dealer dollars. If you'd like to run a game, please fill out the form at the following link:

 Gaming Event Submission Form

The September 29th, 2000, deadline for event submissions has passed. Submissions will still be accepted, but there is no guarantee that we will be able to accommodate your slot. Obviously, the longer you wait, the less likely you will be able to get your event is.
