Convention HoursOwlCon will begin at 6:00 PM Friday and continue until 6:00 PM Sunday. Although certain activities, such as open gaming and media rooms, will be open 24 hours, the bulk of OwlCon will occur in the Rice Student Center, and the portions of the convention occurring there will operate during the following hours: Fri 1800-2300, Sat 0830-2300, Sun 1130-1600. The primary gaming slots are Fri 1900-2300, Fri 2400-? (all nighter), Sat 0900-1300, Sat 1400-1800, Sat 1900-2300, Sat 2400-? (all nighter), and Sun 1200-1600. Notable exceptions are the Warhammer Tournament, Sat 1000-1800, and Convention Party, Sat 2200-0200. Gaming Event Sign UpConvention attendees can sign up for gaming events at the Registration desk in the Kelley Lounge. Ask the staff there if the event in question still has an opening for a player and give the staff member your badge. They will check the event in question and if there is a slot available, they will annotate the event information on the back of your badge for you. Note that no one will be allowed to sign up for multiple events in the same block of time. If no slots are open for a game you wish to play, you can also play as a walk on, walking into a game that is about to start and still has openings. If a player is more than ten minutes late for a game, they forfeit their right to that slot and a walk on player may replace them. Walk on players should show up to the event that they wish to join and notify the GM. If you do walk on to a game, please have your name added to the list of players. Player sign up sheets will be taken to the game masters fifteen minutes prior to the game session. The sign up sheets for the all nighter sessions, which start at midnight, will be delivered to the Sewall Hall desk at 2300, when the main Registration desk in the Student Center closes. RecyclingOwlCon tries to be environmentally conscious. Recycling bins will be located conveniently throughout the convention. If you have trouble finding one, please ask the convention staff. Admission and BadgesThe cost for a full weekend pass at the door is $20 for non-students and $16 for students. A one-day pass can be purchased for $14, but why on Earth would you limit your fun like that?! Convention badges are to be worn at all times at OwlCon. The back of the badge will be used to record events as you sign up for them. Please return the badge holders as you leave OwlCon. This will help us conserve resources and help our environment. Minors are expected to have a parent or guardian present. WeaponsThere is a zero tolerance weapons policy at OwlCon as well as the entire Rice Campus. Anyone found violating this will be ejected from OwlCon and turned over to the authorities. Food & DrinkThe Rice Student Center contains a convenience store and Subway restaurant. For those wanting more choices, we will provide an area with menus and numbers of restaurants in the area that deliver to Rice University so that you can call and order something more to your liking. Refreshments and light snacks will be available in the Sewall Hall vending area. All of the LARP events provide light snacks and refreshments as well. Fun For AllWe at OwlCon are committed to providing a gaming experience that is fun for everyone involved. We support the right of those running events to eject players that are too disruptive. Similarly, if you have any problems, please do not hesitate to let us know. If staff or guests are harassing you, please let us know and we will address the problem. Parking and Access to CampusParking and good entrances to use are indicated on the campus map on page 8 of our program. Sewall Hall has a lot of visitor parking adjacent to it, whereas the student center has very little. Guests also have the option of parking in the North Lot and walking south through the breezeway to the Student Center. Guests can also park in the Stadium Parking Lot at the west end of campus and ride the shuttle to their destination. Shuttles operate from 0630 to 2300 with an interval between shuttles of five to ten minutes. Please note that between 0000 and 0600, the only open gate on campus is Gate number 8, near the Rice University Police Department. EmergenciesWhile on the Rice University campus, please call the Rice University Police Department Dispatcher at 713.348.6000 for emergencies, or simply “6000” from a campus phone. Calls made to “911” will simple be delayed as they are routed back through the RUPD Dispatcher. Police call boxes can also be used. Police Call BoxesThere are red call boxes with blue lights scattered about the Rice Campus. These phones are directly connected to the Rice University Police Department Dispatcher. Simply pick up the phone and you will be immediately connected to the RUPD Dispatcher. PrizesPrizes will be awarded for the Warhammer Tournament, all LARPs, and the costume contest. Aside from Games Workshop, the Warhammer prizes are being provided by Horizon Games, Comiczone, Chimera’s Den, and Gamesmasters Unlimited. FASA has generously provided $25 gift certificates for all of the Shadowrun events as well as a nifty little commemorative novelty ring. Steve Jackson Games and White Wolf Publishing events, which are being run by official volunteers, will also have dedicated prize support. Beyond that, we have secured additional prize support that will allow us to sprinkle prizes throughout the other events. SSDC Inc. has generously provided some of their gaming materials as general prizes. Finally, we have purchased prize support from Wizards of the Coast.DisclaimersOwlCon assumes no responsibility for lost or stolen materials. Lost badges, programs, or other materials must be re-purchased. OwlCon reserves the right to refuse service to anyone. If anyone acts in an inappropriate manner, as deemed by the convention staff, we reserve the right to eject you from the convention without a refund. |
