Warhammer 40,000 RTT Guidelines

Pub quizzes, carnage, and good sportsmanship! Oh my!

UPDATE (02FEB2002): To facilitate quick registration at the door, we are still accepting electronic army list submissions. You will still not receive a slot in the RTT until you show up to OwlCon and register, but this will insure your list is submitted and valid, and will streamline the registration process for you.

First, let's get the serious stuff out of the way. You will not be given a slot in the RTT until you have submitted a preregistration form, payment has been received, and you have submitted a valid army list. Right, now let's get on with it! It's just a few easy steps to secure your place in the merry mayhem!

  1. Read the rules and guidelines below
  2. Submit an Army List (we are still accepting electronic list submissions)
  3. Hurry up and finish that conversion or paint job before the RTT starts! ;-)
  4. Register as soon as you can! The doors open at 6:00 PM Friday, 08FEB2002.
  5. If you get a slot, rejoice in the mayhem you will soon enjoy.

Note: This is an official Rogue Trader Tournament. This is a special event and requires a special events pass.

Prizes!

There will be prizes given out for Best Sportsman (opponents' evaluation sheets), Best Painted (judges scoring on painting and appearance), Best Army (combination of painting and army selection scores), Best overall (combination of combat results, sportsmanship, painting and army selection scores). Each prize will include a certificate and a gift of 40k miniatures.

Army Selection Scoring That Depend On Your Army List Design

These scoring categories count for 2 points each out of a possible 160+ points. However, note that there will be an award for Best Army, which will depend in part upon your selection scores.

  1. Does the army have more troop choices than any other single category? - So if you have 2 HQ, 4 Troops, 3 Elites, 3 Fast Attack, 3 Heavy Support you would satisfy this.
  2. Do troop selections make up at least 40% of the total points of this army?
  3. Are there at least two squads that are at maximum size?
  4. Has the player spent less than 10% of their total points on anything from the "Armory" page? - Note the change to the word "Armory" instead of "Wargear".
  5. Do individual characters, squads, and the army itself have name(s)?
  6. Does the army have a theme or background to it?

Army Composition and Rules guidelines

  • Each player must bring all Codices and Chapter Approved articles and books pertaining to his or her army. Photocopies of pertinent material are permitted. These materials should be readily available for your opponent to look at.
  • Armies may be up to 1750 points using one standard force detachment from any current Codex or Chapter Approved lists, but NOT Recommended Optional nor Optional lists.
  • Citadel Journal Lists will not be eligible for Rogue Trader Tournaments. Appendix armies may not be used.
  • No Recommended Optional nor Optional rules from Chapter Approved will be used.
  • No vehicles constructed from Vehicle Design Rules may be used, though Forge World vehicles from Imperial Armour will be used, but only the rules covering tank variants (no Super Heavies, flyers or weapons platforms). Imperial Armour II contains the following rules in use: Wave Serpent, Night Spinner, Gunwagon, Battlewagon (no battle fortress upgrade is allowed), Grot Bomb Launcha.
  • No special characters will be allowed.
  • Points for army composition will be added and deducted in accordance with current Rogue Trader rules. Note that Rogue Trader composition rules are different from Grand Tournament rules. [The RTT rules are being updated for 2002, we will post more information as we receive it.]
  • Jungle fighting rules found in Codex: Catachans will NOT be in effect.
  • All army lists found in the Index Astartes - First Founding articles will be in use, but as with all other armies, you must provide the appropriate rules for your opponent when you show up to play. We also ask that you give the specific issue and page number for the army list when submitting it.

Modeling and Painting Guidelines

  • All models must be Games Workshop models, though conversion parts may come from any source.
  • All models must be painted with at least three colors, not counting the base coat or primer, in order to avoid losing appearance points. Unpainted armies or armies painted only with primer will not be allowed.
  • Each model must clearly represent its intended function. Proxy miniatures from the Games Workshop range (including Foundry miniatures) are permitted as long as they are fully representative of their function (e.g. using converted Fantasy dwarves to build an Imperial Guard army, using Fantasy cold ones for Imperial Guard rough riders or using Fantasy demons in Chaos armies).
  • What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG). If a model is equipped with an item, it must be shown on the figure. Models for army list choices that are not available must be converted to reflect the model's capabilities. If you are in any way in doubt about whether your conversion or scratch built piece might not be acceptable please contact us before the tournament. We don't want someone to show up with something they can't use!

Tournament Format

  • We strongly recommend preregistration for this event (see top of page). All army lists for players not preregistered must be handed to the judges by 9:30 A.M. Saturday, February 9, 2002, without exception. If you have preregistered and submitted your list in advance, we will take care of printing lists out for you. If you do not preregister, you must supply 4 printed army lists to the judges prior to the start of the first game (1 copy for the judges and 1 copy for each opponent).
  • Each player must bring all Codices and Chapter Approved articles and books pertaining to his or her army. Photocopies of pertinent material are permitted. These materials must be readily available for your opponent to look at.
  • The tournament will consist of three games lasting 1 hour 40 minutes each with a 20 minute break between each one. The first game will start promptly at 10 a.m. Players arriving late will not be allowed to play the first game for score, but will be scored on the last two games.
  • Games will be played on 4' x 6' tables. Each table will have from 4 to 7 pieces of terrain. Buildings will function like Woods per the standard rules. No building or bunker rules will be used.
  • Cityfight rules will NOT be in effect.
  • Each player will play on three different tables and will play three different scenarios. Scenarios will have mission objectives which will affect scoring.
  • We are working on getting the army composition scoring, but GW is updating the RTT rules for 2002.
