OwlCon XXII Guidelines...
Prizes!
We have ordered the big trophy/prize package for this event, so
there will be quite a haul. Come claim your trophy!
Tournament Format
- Players must be 14 years of age
or older to participate in the Rogue Trader Tournament.
- We strongly recommend preregistration
for this event. All army lists for players not
preregistered must be handed to the judges by 9:30 A.M. Saturday,
February 8, 2003, without exception. If you have preregistered
and submitted your list in advance, we will take care of printing
lists out for you. If you do not preregister, you must supply
4 printed army lists to the judges prior to the start of the first
game (1 copy for the judges and 1 copy for each opponent).
- Each player must bring all Codices
and Chapter Approved articles and books pertaining to his or her
army. Photocopies of pertinent material are permitted.
These materials must be readily available for your opponent to
look at.
- We will be using the Trial Assault
Rules from Chapter Approved Annual 2003.
- The tournament will consist of three games lasting 1 hour 40
minutes each with a 20 minute break between each one. The first
game will start promptly at 10 a.m. Players arriving late will
not be allowed to play the first game for score, but will be scored
on the last two games.
- Games will be played on 4' x 6' tables. Each table will have
from 4 to 7 pieces of terrain. Buildings will function like Woods
per the standard rules. No building or bunker rules will be used.
- Cityfight rules will NOT be in effect.
- Each player will play on three different tables and will play
three different scenarios. Scenarios will have mission objectives
which will affect scoring.
Army Selection Scoring Categories That Depends On Your Army List
Design
These scoring categories count for 2 points each out of a possible
160+ points. However, note that there will be an award for Best
Army, which will depend in part upon your selection scores.
- Does the army have more Troops selections than any other single
category?
An easy one to calculate. To score a check on this question -
add up the number of Troops selections (they must have a minimum
2 and a maximum of 6). Is it more than any other single category
(HQ, Elites, Fast Attack, or Heavies).
Note: army lists like the Saim Hain wildriders count fast attack
as Troops, these do count as Troops when calculating this score.
- Do the units and characters have names, designations etc.?
This is a question about putting character and imagination into
an army. Have you tried to create a specific army for example,
the Ultramarines, the fighting 54th from planet Zod, or the Hive
Fleet Abominable? Not every model, hero, or squad has to be named
- but enough for you to feel the army is personalized and distinctive.
- Do Troop selections make up at least 40% of the total points
of this army?
This question is a fairly easy yes-or-no mathematical calculation
that should already be done on their army list.
- Have they spent no more than 25% of their total points on Fast
Attack, Heavy Support, or Elites?
Note: this is not a total of all categories, but this is each
individual category.
- Has the player spent no more than than 20% of their total points
on anything from the "Armory" page?
Wargear and special equipment (This includes anything bought on
the "armory" page or whatever the particular army calls it) are
a cool part of the Warhammer 40,000 universe - but the a player's
focus should be on his army - not just on specialty equipment!
If the army contains less than 20 percent - give the player the
points! This will include Vehicle Upgrades, Psychic powers for
Eldar, Hard Wired systems for Tau etc. The only Codex (currently)
that has no "armory" page to date is Tyranids.
Army Composition and Rules guidelines
- Armies may be up to 1750 points using one standard force detachment
from any current Codex or Chapter Approved lists, but NOT
Recommended Optional nor Optional lists.
- Citadel Journal Lists will not be eligible for Rogue Trader
Tournaments. Appendix armies may not be used.
- No Recommended Optional nor Optional rules from
Chapter Approved will be used.
- No vehicles constructed from Vehicle Design Rules may be used,
though Forge World vehicles from Imperial Armour will be used,
but only the rules covering tank variants (no Super Heavies, flyers
or weapons platforms). Imperial Armour II contains the following
rules in use: Wave Serpent, Night Spinner, Gunwagon, Battlewagon
(no battle fortress upgrade is allowed), Grot Bomb Launcha.
- No special characters will be allowed.
- Points for army composition will be added and deducted in accordance
with current Rogue Trader rules. Note that Rogue Trader composition
rules are different from Grand Tournament rules.
- Jungle fighting rules found in Codex: Catachans will NOT be
in effect.
- All army lists found in the Index Astartes - First Founding
articles will be in use, but as with all other armies, you must
provide the appropriate rules for your opponent when you show
up to play. We also ask that you give the specific issue and page
number for the army list when submitting it.
Modeling and Painting Guidelines
- All models must be Games Workshop models, though conversion
parts may come from any source.
- All models must be painted with at least three colors, not counting
the base coat or primer, in order to avoid losing appearance points.
Unpainted armies or armies painted only with primer will not be
allowed.
- Each model must clearly represent its intended function. Proxy
miniatures from the Games Workshop range (including Foundry miniatures)
are permitted as long as they are fully representative of their
function (e.g. using converted Fantasy dwarves to build an Imperial
Guard army, using Fantasy cold ones for Imperial Guard rough riders
or using Fantasy demons in Chaos armies).
- What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG). If a model is equipped
with an item, it must be shown on the figure. Models for army
list choices that are not available must be converted to reflect
the model's capabilities. If you are in any way in doubt about
whether your conversion or scratch built piece might not be acceptable
please contact us before the tournament. We don't want someone
to show up with something they can't use!
