Preregistration for OwlCon XXIII is Closed
The doors open for normal registration Friday, February 6, 2004,
in the Kelley Lounge of the Rice University Student Center. Note:
You will not officially be given a spot in the tournament until
the army lists are received and checked. We highly recommend that
you register as early as possible to insure you get a spot, as our
last RTT filled completely.
We look forward to seeing you at OwlCon XXIII!
Prizes!
We will be awarding the "large" trophy package.
Tournament Format
- Trial Vehicle Rules will
be used
- Trial Assault Rules will
be used
- The general rules for the Rogue Trader Tournament are straightforward.
You must use the same army for each game, and the models must
be painted Citadel Miniatures. The latest edition of the rules
must be used. Furthermore, contestants should know that Rogue
Trader Tournaments are for fun, and that poor sportsmanship will
not be tolerated in any way.
- There is an age minimum for the RTT. Players must be at least 13 years old to play, and players under 16 (age 13-15) must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
- We strongly recommend preregistration
for this event. All army lists for players
not preregistered must be handed to the judges by 9:30
A.M. Saturday, February 7, 2004, without exception. If
you have preregistered and submitted your list in advance,
we will take care of printing lists out for you. If you
do not preregister, you must supply 4 printed army lists
to the judges prior to the start of the first game (1 copy
for the judges and 1 copy for each opponent).
- Each player must bring all Codices
and Chapter Approved articles and books pertaining to his
or her army. Photocopies of pertinent material
are permitted. These materials must be readily available
for your opponent to look at.
- The tournament will consist of three games lasting 2 hours
each with a ? minute break between each one. The first game will
start promptly at 10 a.m. Players arriving late will not be allowed
to play the first game for score, but will be scored on the last
two games.
- Games will be played on 4' x 6' tables. Each table will have
around 5 to 8 pieces of terrain; this is not a constraint upon
the organizers, but a rough average. Buildings will function
like Woods per the standard rules. No building or bunker rules
will be used.
- Cityfight rules will NOT be in effect.
- Each player will play on three different tables and will play
three different scenarios. Scenarios will have mission objectives
which will affect scoring.
- You must conduct yourself in a manner that will not bring the
hobby into disrepute.
- You must bring all materials needed to play including: dice,
measuring device, templates, models, and any rules that you will
be using.
Army Constraints
- Armies may be up to 1850 points using one standard force detachment
from any current Codex or Chapter Approved lists, but
NOT Recommended Optional nor Optional lists.
- Citadel Journal Lists will not be eligible for Rogue Trader
Tournaments. Appendix armies may not be used.
- All models must be Games Workshop models, though conversion
parts may come from any source.
- Each model must clearly represent its intended function. Proxy
miniatures from the Games Workshop range (including Foundry miniatures)
are permitted as long as they are fully representative of their
function (e.g. using converted Fantasy dwarves to build an Imperial
Guard army, using Fantasy cold ones for Imperial Guard rough
riders or using Fantasy demons in Chaos armies).
- What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG). If a model is equipped
with an item, it must be shown on the figure. Models for army
list choices that are not available must be converted to reflect
the model's capabilities. If you are in any way in doubt about
whether your conversion or scratch built piece might not be acceptable
please contact us before the tournament. We don't want someone
to show up with something they can't use!
- No Recommended Optional nor Optional rules from Chapter
Approved will be used.
- No vehicles constructed from Vehicle Design Rules may be used, though Forge World vehicles from Imperial Armour (soon to be replaced by Imperial Armour Book Volume 1 Imperial Guard and Imperial Navy) will be used, but only the rules covering tank variants (no Super Heavies, flyers or weapons platforms). Imperial Armour II contains the following rules in use: Wave Serpent, Night Spinner, Gunwagon, Battlewagon (no battle fortress upgrade is allowed), Grot Bomb Launcha. Awaiting a ruling on Imperial Armour Update.
- No special characters will be allowed.
- Every model must be painted (they must contain at least 3 colors
to count. Priming them black or white does not count).
- Points for army composition/theme and apperance will be added
and deducted in accordance with current Rogue Trader rules. Note
that Rogue Trader composition rules are different from Grand
Tournament rules.
- Jungle fighting rules found in Codex: Catachans will NOT be
in effect.
- All army lists found in the Index Astartes - First Founding
articles will be in use, but as with all other armies, you must
provide the appropriate rules for your opponent when you show
up to play. We also ask that you give the specific issue and
page number for the army list when submitting it.
Appearance Considerations
- Bare minimum painting - Basecoated, which means no metal or
plain primer showing, and as a rule of thunb, at least 3 different
colors on the model
- Completely painted?
- Minis based/flocked
- Insignia, camo schemes, and eye-catching items
- Character models and centerpieces stand out
- Coherent army aesthetic
- Extra time put into cool details, e.g. conversions, battlefield
debris, hand painted banners, kill markings on vehicles, battle
damage, expertly-painted eyes, badges, etc.
- Painted to an above average standard?
Army Selection Scoring Categories That Depends On Your Army List
Design (Scored by Your Opponent)
- "This was a fine example of what this army should look
like. Everything from color scheme, unit markings, to appopriate
unit selections for the chosen army. (2 points)"
- "This army was not exceptional but I do not believe it
was looking for loopholes in the army list to give them an unfair
advantage in the game. (1 point)"
- "This army does not fit the background and flavor of the
Codex or army book for this army in any way shape or form. An
infiltrating, scouting army with three Wraithlords?!? Why does
that fast cavalry army have two cannons and a Steamtank? (0 points)"
